Elements and principles of design.

Line: when a dot moves in any direction



Movement: when an image represents movement and when you can see that one of the objects in the painting is moving.




Emphasis: is when the drawing wants you to focus on the important or centre of a drawing.



Shape: is an object that is defined in some way and is a two-dimensional object.



Form: when a shape achieves a three-dimensional quality.



Texture: is the surface quality. It can be real or it can be simulated.




Colour: is the name we use to describe words of specific light such as red, yellow and blue.




Tone or value: it describes the darkness or lightness in a image. The image does not need light colours.




Intensity: it describes how colourful an image is.




Balance: is when an image is equal in all the various elements and has a sense of order.




Contrast: when part of the painting opposes the other either with colour or shape.



Pattern: when the image has repetition and/or similar motifs on a surface.




Unity: when the whole image seems as if it all blends together.
