Disharmony, Object

Disharmony, Object: when one object has very little correlation with the rest of the image.


 

Subject,Light,Balance

Subject, Light, Balance: a lot of bright colours that are evenly distributed.



Object and Colour

Object and Colour: an image that has an object with a lot of colour in it.

Harmony,Colour,Scenery

Harmony, Colour, Scenery: an image with a lot of colour, some landscape and consistency.



Random

Random: objects that have been placed in image in seemingly no order.

Organized

Organized: when objects put in an order that makes something recognizable.


Movement

Movement: when an image represents movement and when you can see that one of the objects in the painting is moving.

Weak/Dull

Weak/Dull: when the image has very little colour and is almost uninteresting.

Vivid

Vivid: full of colour very lively and intense.


Bright/Radiant

Bright/Radiant: an image with a lot of colours and a lot of light.

Weak

Weak: indefinite colours and lines.

Strong

Strong: powerful colours and shapes.

Gloomy/Stark

Gloomy: an image that is sad and very shaded. Stark: very plain and harsh.

Dark/Dull

Dark: an image with very little light. Dull: having very little colour.

Discordant

Discordant: different colours and shapes that disagree with each other.

Harmony

Harmony: a nice arrangement of parts that work really well together.

Cool

Cool: the image gives off a saddened vibe.

Warm

Warm: the image gives off a cheerful vibe.

Pastel

Pastel: a colour that has soft and shaded look to it.

Bright

Bright: when the image shines and/or reflects light.

Gritty/Granular

Gritty: resembling or consisting of grit. Granular: contains grains and shows a granulated structure.

Rough/Coarse

Rough: having an uneven surface that breaks. Coarse: has no fineness or delicacy.


Shiny/Smooth

Shiny: looks bright and looks like the sun reflects off of it. Smooth: object that is flat and isn't uneven.


Volume/Mass

Volume: space measured by cubes. Mass: a shape of matter that is usually quite large in size.

Textural

Textural: when a surface is tactile and has a visual quality.


Angular

Angular: consists of multiple angles.


Squared

Squared: when it has four equal sides in length.

Rounded

Rounded: curves used to complete the form.

Proportional

Proportional: when the drawing is made up of different proportions of shapes.

Symbolic

Symbolic: when the painting has an outside meaning.

Repeated

Repeated: when part of the drawing is drawn multiple times.

Organic

Organic: a drawing of any substance that is completely natural.

Solid

Solid: has no breaks in it or openings.

Implied

Implied: indirectly indicated or suggested.


Horizontal/Diagonal

Horizontal: parallel with the horizon and opposite of vertical. Diagonal: a line that has headed in an oblique direction.

Curved/Straight

Curved: a line that continuously bends and that has no angles. Straight: a line that is exactly vertical or horizontal.



Weak/Strong

Weak: looks like it could break or collapse. Strong: looks like it would very hard for it to break or collapse.

Thick/Thin

Thick: having a long distance from one surface to the other. Thin: having a small distance from one surface to the other.

Jagged/smooth

Jagged: having rough or uneven qualities too it. Smooth: flat and even surfaces.


Emphasis

Emphasis: is when the drawing wants you to focus on the important or centre of a drawing.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition: when parts are close together and they contrast each other.

Opposition

Opposition: when part of the painting is different from the other or when it almost seems like they are combating each other.

Radial

Radial: arranged so its either going outward or inward.


Random

Random: Forms, shapes, lines and colours that have no corresponding features with the rest of the drawing.

Formal

Formal: when the artist can use any type of line, colour and/or shape to draw his/her's drawing.


 

Asymetrical

Asymmetrical: having pieces and shapes of the drawing that don't correspond with the rest of the drawing.

Symmetrical

Batik motif
Symmetrical: made up of exactly similar parts that are around an axis or facing each other.
